Introducing ourselves

ruthgerzon4

Our collective began after a public meeting about funerals held by Virtual Eastern Bay Villages in mid 2019. Several members and other attendees were concerned about the rising cost of funerals and decided to work together to explore alternatives. We explored our traditions and discovered new options and possibilities that not available from the mainstream funeral directors. We saw how family care for their loved one could be healing. We networked with funeral guides and others throughout the country and shared ideas and possibilities. We received funding from Bay Trust and Te Muka Rau. Trust Horizon gave us funding to have Cold Plates/Atamira Matao made in Whakatāne. Covid19 led to inevitable delays but we are now hoping to be able to provide support to whanau early 2023.
